More About Beatrix Barker

Beatrix Barker on site at Staples CenterBeatrix Barker founded ArtForum, Inc. in Toronto, Canada, in 1975. As corporate and public art consultant, she worked on important projects in Canada and the United States.

Relocating to California in 1991, she organized a number of high-profile exhibitions, and facilitated corporate accessions and de-accessions for among others, Sony Disc, Fox Worldwide Headquarters, and Universal Studios.

The broad range of projects she has worked on since establishing an office in Los Angeles include being: consultant-project manager for five public art projects at Staples Center, the sports and entertainment complex downtown Los Angeles; team member on the Los Angeles International Airport enhancement project; art consultant on the largest riverfront regeneration project in the USA, the Three Rivers Park Project in Pittsburgh, PA; initiator and manager of temporary art installations programming on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood; consultant for the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center art program; a Marriott Hotel in Burbank; a bridge downtown Los Angeles; an art park in Pasadena, and art for various significant mixed-use residential, retail and commercial projects.

With studies in art, cultural history, art psychology, and sociology, Beatrix has a varied background that allows her to understand and successfully mediate between the many sectors involved in public art projects. Due to spending her early childhood and getting her primary and secondary education in Austria, Belgium, and England, with her parents being based in Geneva, Switzerland, she is fluent in several languages. During her graduate studies she also attended the University of Budapest, Hungary, adding another dimension to her multicultural background.

She is Past Chair of the board of the Fellows of Contemporary Art; many years’ Board Member of the Pasadena Art Alliance; Advisory Board Member of Side Street Projects; Advisory Board Member of the Ambassador Auditorium; member of ArtTable, a national organization for professional women in leadership positions in the visual arts; and member of Americans for the Arts.
